Strep throat is an inflammation and pain in the throat caused by bacteria (Streptococcus) or virus. It can affect any age group, individual.
It can spread via cough and sneeze.
Test Details:
- The doctor will examine the symptoms of strep throat and suggest the test.
- The doctor will conduct a rapid antigen exam using a swab sample from the throat to detect bacteria.
- Another way to detect bacteria is to perform throat culture. A sterile swab is applied over the tonsils and at the back of the throat to get a secretion sample. The sample is tested in a lab to identify the bacteria. This process can take 2 days.
- Once the bacteria is identified medication will be suggested as per the severity.
